Legal Options After A diagnosis of Mesothelioma

If your doctor diagnosed you or a loved one with mesothelioma, it is important to follow their recommendations to the letter. It is also advisable to receive legal advice from an experienced lawyer, since you could receive compensation for medical expenses, treatments, pain, suffering and lost wages. If you decide to seek legal help, there are three very important questions that a lawyer will ask you: Were you or your loved one exposed to asbestos or asbestos? Where and when did this exposure to asbestos occur? What damage did the person suffer as a result of exposure to asbestos? Exposure to asbestos at work If the asbestos exposure occurred at work, you could file a lawsuit against your employer. If you worked in the following industries, it is very likely that you were exposed to asbestos:      Building      Factories / manufacturing      Firefighters      Naval building      Military      Aerospace      farming      Food      Automotive      Railway

History of Asbestos Claims

The cause of mesothelioma is known, and in most cases it is a result of exposure to asbestos. Unfortunately, a large number of people have been exposed to asbestos without their consent and more than anyone without knowledge of the health risk involved, even though since the 1930s there is evidence that it causes health problems, and since 60s, it is known to produce mesothelioma. However, since the 1940s, sales of asbestos began to rise because the industrialized countries began to move their industries to Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and India, transferring health risks to the population of our countries. By 2010, 52 countries had already banned the use and manufacture of asbestos in their soils. Not so in Mexico, which is a large asbestos factory. Many of these large asbestos companies went bankrupt, because of the weight of the lawsuits filed against them by affected individuals. The companies established "bankruptcy funds" or "stock exchanges" desti

General Information about Malignant Mesothelioma

Malignant mesothelioma is a disease in which malignant (cancerous) cells form in the lining of the chest or abdomen. Malignant mesothelioma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells are found in the pleura (the thin layer of tissue that lines the chest cavity and covers the lungs) or the peritoneum (the thin layer of tissue that lines the abdomen and covers most of the organs of the abdomen). Malignant mesothelioma can form in the heart or testicles, but this is not common Exposure to asbestos can influence the risk of malignant mesothelioma. Anything that increases the risk of getting a disease is called a risk factor. Having a risk factor does not mean you are going to have cancer; Having no risk factors does not mean you will not have cancer. Talk to your doctor if you think you may be at risk. Most people with malignant mesothelioma have worked or lived in places where they inhaled or swallowed asbestos. After exposure to asbestos, it usually takes a lon

Clinical-Radiological Markers of Exposure to Asbestos

There is some confusion about the criteria for exposure to asbestos. In the accreditation of the asbestos exposure there are 3 criteria that in order of importance are: 1.- the work history 2.- the exposure markers. 3.- The detection of asbestos bodies in biological samples. When there is a clear history of exposure to asbestos, as is the work activity in the different industrial sectors in which asbestos has been present, exposure to asbestos is sufficiently proven. The second criterion in importance is the existence of exposure markers. In this sense, clinical-radiological markers such as pleural plaques, diffuse pleural fibrosis and round atelectasis guarantee exposure to asbestos in a high proportion of cases, which reaches 81% -89% in round atelectasis (1). Finally, and contrary to what might appear, the negativity in the detection of asbestos bodies in biological samples does not exclude exposure to asbestos when one of the 2 major criteria is present: the work history and / or

The First Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that not even those who suffer from it are aware that they suffer from it. The symptoms are not clear at the beginning of the disease and may go unnoticed. There are patients who do not even have the symptoms. All these circumstances can lead to the disease is not diagnosed or is misdiagnosed for years. It is imperative that a person who has the first symptoms immediately see their doctor. If the mesothelioma is not diagnosed or not treated, the cancer can spread throughout the body. Stay well informed about the first symptoms of this malignant disease. Here we will offer you a detailed information package with the essential information of this disease. For those who suffer the first symptoms, a proper diagnosis can lead to a better prognosis and better treatment options. Mesothelioma with Short Latency Periods.

Recently we had the opportunity to study 2 cases of mesothelioma in young workers. A 40-year-old secretary, whose office was close to foundry furnaces and a 35-year-old worker, at another foundry. Both patients presented a pleural mesothelioma with peritoneal extension. It is known the use of asbestos in foundry companies, both in thermal protection equipment, and for being present in their facilities (doors and walls of furnaces). Both patients developed the tumor in periods of latency close to 10 years. The period of latency is defined as the time interval between the first exposure to asbestos and the appearance of mesothelioma. In most of the published series, this latency period ranges between 20 and 40 years (1), although the variability is very high, with cases described with latency periods of less than 10 years and others over 60 years. It is admitted that mesothelioma is the malignant tumor with longer latency periods and this knowledge has overshadowed
