The metal industry has been one of the companies that has most used asbestos to help protect its workers from fire and heat when necessary. Using this material in a myriad of products, I was responsible for keeping countless workers safe during their daily work. Its use in refractory kilns, generators, pipes and boilers contributed to the vital isolation that workers needed. In addition, many work equipment such as masks, T-shirts, pants, gloves and shoe protectors included this material.

Although this material was valuable for workers to be safe from heat and fire, the presence of asbestos put metalworkers at a long-term risk of suffering from mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. Since these products containing asbestos were damaged given their daily use, small particles were released and were suspended in the air, and could be inhaled or ingested by workers.
However, many workers remained oblivious to these risks because many entrepreneurs ignored them or concealed them consciously. In addition, some of the employers in the metal sector defended the safe use of materials containing asbestos, highlighting their value as insulation. Despite the effectiveness of asbestos as a high temperature and fire insulator, a substitute should have been found which, being a safe material, would not have long-term risks
